Behind the artwork

About this design

This design is a shout-out to Leo Valdez and his forge-born, always-inventing energy. With a crossed-hammers emblem, a classic badge layout, and the words “Son of Hephaestus,” it leans into Greek myth vibes and maker pride at the same time. If you love stories where brains, tools, and a little chaos save the day, this one’s made for your kind of creativity.

We especially love it for bookish fandom folks, makers, and anyone who feels most at home around sparks, sketches, and half-finished projects.

Made for: Readers and fandom fans, makers and builders, and anyone who loves inventive, fire-forged energy.

Questions about this design

What’s the meaning behind the crossed hammers and “Son of Hephaestus” theme?
The crossed hammers and forge-badge style point to the mythic world of Hephaestus, the god of fire and craftsmanship. Paired with Leo Valdez’s name, it celebrates clever builds, chaotic creativity, and hands-on problem solving.
Does the artwork include an established year?
Yes. The design includes “EST. 1994” as part of the badge layout, giving it that classic, team-style look with a personal detail.
How do I choose the right size for Leo Valdez Son of Hephaestus Forge Master merchandise?
On each product page, click the Size Chart button right beside the size options. That button opens the chart for that exact style. If you’re between sizes, we generally recommend sizing up.
When will my order ship and arrive?
If you see it on our site, it’s ready to order. We print after you place your order, and most orders ship the same day or next business day. Most orders usually arrive in about 3 to 4 business days after shipment.
What if I need to return or exchange something?
Our current policy is maintained on our Policies page, and returns are generally accepted within 30 days under that policy. If your item arrives damaged or incorrect, email info@expressiontees.com with your order info and photos if useful.
How should I wash and care for my item?
Keep it forge-fresh. Machine wash cold and inside out with like colors, and use only non-chlorine bleach when needed. Tumble dry on medium; do not iron and do not dry clean.
How is the design printed, and will it look like the mockup?
We print every order after it’s placed using professional heat-press equipment and plastisol transfers. Everything is printed, packed, and shipped in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania (just outside Philadelphia). Mockups match the intended size and placement, and colors may look slightly different in person due to screens and garment color.
Is this a good gift for a maker or book lover?
Totally fits that crafty, inventive personality, especially for readers who love forge, fire, and myth themes. The crossed-hammers badge makes it feel like a proud “builder” emblem without needing a long explanation. It’s a fun pick for birthdays, holidays, or a book club surprise.
