In actual fact, the vast majority of feminists out there are respectful, honest, kind, and caring individuals, who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in. Since women’s suffrage, feminism has come on leaps and bounds, yet despite this, people still do not necessarily understand what it truly means to be a feminist and to stand up for what is right in the world. If the recent women’s march is anything to go by, the future is female, or at least, things may certainly be heading that way, and that is certainly not a bad thing. Feminists do not hate all men – One common negative stereotype associated with feminism, is that they all despise men, and accuse every man out there to be a potential rapist. This however, is not the case at all. Feminists love men, just as they love women. Providing the men in question are respectful, they get the same treatment in return. The reason why people believe that feminists hate men is because feminists campaign for equal rights, as they wanted to be treated equally to men, rather than as inferior - and what is wrong with that?
Feminists want and deserve equal rights – As previously touched upon, feminists want equal rights, as they deserve to be treated exactly the same as men, rather than be judged based upon their gender. Feminists do not believe they are better than men, just as they don’t believe that men are better than women, or that women are better than men. Feminism is all about equality, meaning that men and women alike should be allowed access to the same things, they should receive equal amounts of pay, and women should be able to do the same things as men, and vice versa, without being judged.
Feminists want and deserve to be respected – Respect is something that we all deserve in life, and feminists are no different. A feminist woman, or a man for that matter, should be perfectly able to go out and wear whatever they like in public, without being judged, mocked, or objectified. If a woman wears a low cut top, or short shorts, then that is up to her. She does not want, nor deserve, to be cat called and objectified by other people – male or female. A woman should be allowed to dress however she likes, without having men make lewd comments, or silently judging her. If she feels happy with what she is wearing, then what is the problem? The answer is that there is no problem, as that is her right, and her rights should be respected.
Feminism comes in a variety of forms – Finally, before wrapping things up, the last thing you need to know about feminism is that it comes in a variety of different forms. Not all feminists are white women, as feminism has no specifications in terms of class, gender, race, age, or anything else. Anybody can be a feminist, and rightfully so. With more and more women becoming empowered, in an ideal world, the future is female.
